Nicki Minaj has recently shot to great fame. She was born in Trinidad and Tobago and grew up in Queens, New York City. She has a strong fan-base in America, the Caribbean, the UK and many other countries. She was in the news recently for deleting her Twitter account – she had over 11 million follows. She recently appeared on the Graham Norton show in the UK where she gave a brief insight into her health and fitness regime. We have done a little more research to find out more about Nicki Minaj and how she stays in great shape.
Nicki Minajs’ Body Type
Nicki has a pear-shaped body. She has a large butt and thighs and a very slim waist. This gives her a big natural advantage as it means most of her weight goes where she wants it, and there is less work involved in keeping fat off her midriff.
If anything, her dance workouts help to increase her pear shaped body by building stronger thigh muscles and glutes (butt) which give her a curvier shape. There are also suggestions that she has had some surgical enhancements to enlarge her hips, butt and breasts, however, nothing has been confirmed.
Nicki says that her dance routines and stage rehearsals is really enough to keep her in good shape. Dancing is an excellent form of exercise and when done for hours every day burns a lot of calories. However, Nicki does also use an elliptical machine (cross trainer) a few times a week.
She says that she does a 30 minute elliptical workout 3 times a week. This is not really a lot of exercise though, if you want a body like Nicki you will have to add another 60 minutes of cardio routines a day on top of that. Running or dance workouts would be an ideal way to do this.
To get a really curvy body women should do some weight training, or at least body weight exercises.
Squats and lunges are the two most important exercises. Squats develop the glutes and lunges help develop the thighs. These give a woman a curvier shape. Generally you should limit upper body exercises to ensure that the arms, shoulders and back does not become too muscular. Some upper body exercise is still important though.
Diet and Nutrition
Possibly the most important aspect of her lifestyle is her diet. To have enough energy to perform the long dance routines she needs to consume plenty of calories. However, she must make sure that those calories are all healthy.
Consuming a lot of junk food would leave her feeling tired and run down as the lack of good nutrition and fast burning carbohydrates will mean that she lacks energy and that her body cannot recover as quickly. So a healthy diet is really important.
Low Sugar, Low GI Carbohydrates
In an article in Allure magazine Nicki Minaj said that she has adopted a low sugar and low starch diet. This means that she is on a low GI diet plan and that she mostly eats nutritious fruits and vegetables for energy rather than bread, rice, pasta and other high GI foods. She actually admitted in Allure that she does not like exercise.
“I’m naturally petite, but I definitely struggle with keeping those extra pounds off. And I hate working out. I can’t stand being on a treadmill. That mentally irks me. When I need to lose a few, I just cut out sugar and starch.” ~ Nicki Minaj, Allure, April 2012.
This shows that Nicki is just like every other woman. She has to work to maintain her body. Luckily for her, her work is at times very intensive, so she does not need to do a lot of additional exercise. However, if you wish to get a body like hers and your work involves a lot of sitting, then you need to add more exercise into your daily routine.
