News: Louise Hazel enters Common Wealth Games Heptathlon
Louise Hazel has come out of retirement to enter the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She won the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games and came 27th in the London 2012 Olympic Games and then announced her retirement in September 2013.
It seems that the news of Jess Ennis-Hill missing the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to have a baby has spurred Louise into action. She recently attended a fitness assessment and the verdict was that she was strong enough and fit enough to enter the games.
Louise is very confident, saying:
“I’m in better shape than I thought I was in. I’m really excited and I can’t wait to get started,” she told BBC Sport. “I was really pleasantly surprised by my tests. It’s a thumbs-up for Glasgow, if I’m selected.
“I also have to chat to Commonwealth Games England to discuss the selection process and to see what hurdles have to be overcome. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think I could successfully defend my Commonwealth crown. I’m definitely targeting the podium.”
