Hi Ileen, running is certainly good for your legs, as is using an elliptical. Bodyweight / weight training exercises such as squats, lunges and calf raises are good too. How many reps? Just focus on getting fitter and incorporating these exercises into your daily fitness workouts.

Hi Dustin, go for the running option to start with. If you are working those muscles and feeding them, they should not waste away. Take in some carbs after the run though, as muscle wastage after endurance exercise is generally caused by carb depletion and not a lack of protein (which is why sports hydration drinks contain carbs, not proteins)

Hi Tina, great question. Really though, the key is to exercise more and eat less. Sorry, but that is how it is. Rather than go as low as 1200 Calories, which not limit to around 1800 Calories but do more exercise? You currently exercise 5 times a week - why not more? How about exercise twice a day some days? Also, the diet may not be so much the calories as what you eat. If you are taking in too many low GI carbs (white bread, baked goods, heavily boiled veges and pasta) then you may just be trigger a big insulin response which results in more energy being taken up and stored as fat. You have proved that reducing calories works. So it stands to reason that increasing exercise will work too. Also, if you get fitter those group fitness classes will be easier to teach. Another option would be to look for more fitness instruction work. Some people teach several classes a day....

Hi Othman, 3km walking a day is not enough, aim to walk for at least 60 minutes without stopping. 4 kg a week on that regime will not be possible either. You should reduce calories but eat healthy food (not "health food") and exercise more. Do not set such hard goals as this results in nothing but disappointment. Just focus on getting fitter and live a healthy lifestyle.

Hi Stephanie, the daily walking is a good move, really you should also do some more. Dance probably was improving your fitness and building lean muscle tissue too. The reason why it did not help lose weight is mostly about volume of exercise - 4 hours of dance a week is still only an average of 34 minutes exercise a day - aim for 45-60 minutes a day. Diet does need to be really healthy. Drop the junk, the "carbs" etc. BYT, fresh fruit and vegetables are carbs!

I am 33 years old, am 5'3" and 133. Not technically overweight but on the higher end of the "healthy" spectrum. Ever since I was a child, I have always had a stomach with 2 rolls. I never wanted to wear a two piece bathing suit, and even today feel that way with still having this problem. There was once in my teenager years where I weighed 98lbs and I finally did not have these rolls. I think that is a ridiculously low weight and refuse to try to get to that point in my adult life. My middle is the only problem area that I have. I am a group fitness instructor twice a week and workout at home 2 more times a week with weights. I still cannot seem to get rid of the stomach "rolls". I'm tired of hearing "just eat a healthy diet and work out"....because I do! It seems as if the only time I actually lose weight is when I am SUPER strict and cut calories to the bare minimum of 1000-1200, which I don't understand why that is either. That exhausts me, and is also not healthy, so I don't want to go that low with calories either. I of course do not limit myself completely to all "treats" but I certainly monitor it in moderation. I have begun to "clean eat" to see if this helps, but it's so far not shown to change anything.I am at a frustrated point after all these years and would really love some detailed explaination/advice on why I seem to accumulate this kind of belly fat with the healhty life choices I make!?

hiya, i am 15 years old im extremely unhappy with the way i look and weigh. In the summer of 2011 i started a diet with no carbs and just fresh fruit, vegtables and meats for the 6 weeks. i obviously lost a fair amount of weight. 1 and a half stone to be exact, but i didnt realize that as soon as i had carbs etc i would just gain the weight twice as fast as i lost it! so my new years resolution was to lose weight as i have also been bullied in the past. recently i have started a much better diet which means i have special k for breakfast, usually some kind of corn snack for lunch and a meet/fish dish for dinner. i do drink quite alot of squash. i used to do 4 hours of dancing a week, but this had no impact on my weight lose. i go on a brisk walk with my dog now for 30-40 mins a day, but i need more tips to lose weight! i hope to lose 2 and a half stone by june. HELP!!!:)

Hi, I could do with some help please! I'm 32, 6"0, 15 stone so 210 lbs. I'm running around 2or 3 times a week on a 3 mile, 5k route.
