So You Want to Lose Weight?
No CommentsMany people are trying to lose weight, especially men with too much belly fat for good measure. But do you really want to lose weight? A lot of people do not need to lose weight at all! What? Have we gone mad? No.
When people say “I want to lose weight” they usually really mean “I want to decrease the amount of body fat I am carrying”. But how is this different to losing weight? Well, muscle weights more than fat. If you have carrying excess fat and have a very low muscle mass, then rather than losing weight, you may actually need to gain some weight!
By this, we are of course talking about piling on pounds of extra muscle tissue, literally exchanging the fat for the muscle, and ending up bigger, stronger, more athletic and healthier than you were when you started.
So, before you decide to lose weight, start building some muscle, use that excess energy, burn it off. If you are still a bit flabby afterwards, then go on a reduced calorie diet for a while to lose the last of the fat, but keep building that muscle. To look good, to get a six pack, bigger biceps, a solid chest – you need to pack on heavy muscle.
