Before she started working out and dieting Jennifer Nicole Lee was very overweight, weighing over 200 pounds. She gained all the weight after the birth of her baby boy. She taught herself how to exercise properly and how to eat healthily to lose weight. This photo shows how she looked before she started her workout program and how she looked afterwards. You can see that she gained a lot of tummy fat after the birth of her son. Many women think that it is not possible to lose belly fat once they are a mom, but this is simply not true. As you can see below, her transformation is truly amazing. Jennifer Nicole Lee went on to compete in fitness model competitions and won. As a result she developed the Fitness Model Program (www.fitnessmodelprogram.com) which is designed to teach you how you can get in great shape too. How Did She Do It? Jennifer became very determined to get fit. She explained to FNC iMag in 2012: “ I was sick and tired of being fat [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

The most popular new year resolutions are to lose weight, get fit, eat right and reduce stress. All these four goals are actually intrinsically linked to one another. The lose weight, you must start to exercise more (get fit) and start to eat healthier, more nutritious foods to provide you with the energy required to be more active, without putting on even more weight. It is worth reminding you here that to lose weight may actually require you to eat a little more in the long term, assuming you do not exercise now. Stress can be caused by many factors, but generally people that feel that they are in greater control of their personal lives find it easier to control stress in their working lives. So being more confident as a result of being fitter and healthier can lead to a reduction in stress. So, how do you stick to the plan? Let’s break the resolutions down, and look at each in isolation. How To Lose Weight in the New Year OK, as already mentioned, to lose weight we merely need to increase physical activity and eat a [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

The Relationship Between Sleep, Health and Body Weight

There have been various studies examining the relationship of sleep, health and body weight in recent years. Here we look at 3 pieces of research which link sleep and weight. This follows on from the There appears to be a complex relationship between sleep, hunger, hormones and metabolism that has a direct effect on health. Sleeping More Helps You To Lose Weight Another study revealed that there is a a link between sleep duration and weight. A paper in the Annals of Internal Medicine explains how lack of sleep can cause people to gain weight and why dieters sometimes fail to lose weight. The research was carried out by scientists from the University of Chicago and University of Wisconsin. There has been a known connection between sleep and weight loss for many years but it was always assumed that the reason was because over-tired people tend to snack more and make poorer food choices throughout the morning. However, the researchers have determined that the real reason why reduced sleep leads to weight gain is due to changes in the basal metabolic rate (metabolism) as we become more tired. Tiredness literally slows us down and stops our body from burning fat. [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

For many people losing weight is purely about looking good. However, what is usually reported in the news are the health problems associated with being overweight or obese. It may seem obvious why we should lose weight but many people still do not realise that being overweight really is unhealthy in many ways. This article explains the main health problems associated with being overweight and how losing weight improves your health. While advancements are being made in all areas of medical science we are still facing an ever-growing healthy crisis – the obesity epidemic. The latest figures suggested that 1 in 4 adults are now obese and it is predicted that by 2030 half of all adults will be obese. The increase in cases of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, strokes and other health problems is likely to cost the USA around $48-66 billion a year and the UK £1.9-2 billion a year alone. So it is no surprise that governments are keen to tackle the obesity problem. However, you really should not wait for governments to intervene because obesity will very likely seriously affect your own life very soon. We first commented on overweightedness as a health [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

The fact that you are reading this means that you are far more likely to succeed in your weight loss journey. All too often people attempt to lose weight without really thinking about how it is going to happen. More often than not the result is that it does not happen! As I have mentioned in previous articles, to lose weight (i.e. to lose fat – there is an important distinction between the two*) you need to change your diet and also exercise more. Just to recap, the reason why you are overweight is no different from the reason why any other person becomes overweight – you have been eating more food than your body needs. It makes no difference whether you have a rare genetic condition, are on medication or have a slow metabolism – it is still possible to eat a healthy and well-balanced diet without gaining weight. Although they all stopped drinking for different reasons, and none of them stopped drinking specifically to lose weight, not drinking has certainly helped all of them stay very slim. Kelly Osbourne’s drinking got so out of control a few years ago that she ended up having three stays in rehab to wean herself off the booze. After the final trip she decided that it was best to simply stop drinking altogether. Fearne Cotton never had a problem with alcohol but decided to give up drinking a couple of years ago for health reasons and says that she has never felt better. Not drinking has given her more energy and helped her to maintain a very fit and slim body. Jessie J has never drunk or smoked because she suffers from heart problems which led to a minor stroke when she was just 18 years old. She has an irregular heart beat and avoiding alcohol is one simple way to reduce risk of further complications. She also maintains a very healthy diet. In most cases children that are overweight or obese at the age of 5 will continue to be obese into adulthood. There is no such thing as "puppy fat" for children, only babies should carry some extra protective fat. As soon as children are walking and running they should be slim and fit. However, with a good diet and fitness plan it is not really any harder than it is for anyone else. The hardest thing is really understanding that your lifestyle needs to change, and that this means more exercise and a healthier diet. With some intensive home based workouts and a good diet plan weight loss is possible.

We love MotleyHealth.com

The idea is that we eat when our brains decide it is time but we stop only when our stomachs tell us so. The key to weight loss is to take control of our thoughts.

We love MotleyHealth.com

Exercise, Hormones, Fat Tissue and Appetite Examined

Lifestyle affects diet, and likewise, diet affects lifestyle. Research that has examined the role of exercise, fat and hormones in controlling appetite provides and explanation for why so many people seem to spiral out of control once they start gaining weight. In short, regular exercise reduces hunger and additional fat increases hunger. Exercise-Induced Anorexia Research from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University has looked at the role of exercise on the release of hormones that affect hunger. If you have exercised to lose weight you may have noticed that your appetite does indeed reduce. Often people find that if they exercise in the evening they need to each much less food than normal, sometimes nothing at all. This is one of the reasons why exercise is so important in losing weight. Exercise-induced anorexia is a phrase used to describe the condition whereby a person that does a lot of cardio exercise has significantly reduced appetite that they simply do not want to eat. As a result they lose more fat due to a greatly increased energy deficit. Athletes trying to cut fat and people trying to lose weight generally both need to know how exercise affects their body [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

Cycle At Work To Get Fit

Cycling to work is just not possible for many people with a long commute, however a paper written by researchers from East Carolina University and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has suggested an alternative approach - get people to cycle while at work! The idea is that mini pedal cycles could be installed under desks and then people can cycle while doing a desk job. It sounds like a very silly idea, but it may actually not be so daft as it first appears. “Findings from this study suggest that this pedal machine may be a feasible tool for reducing sedentary time while at work. These findings hold public health significance due to the growing number of sedentary jobs in the USA and the potential of the device for use in large-scale worksite health programmes.” Walaska et al, 2011. Office workers spend from 6 hours a day seated, almost entirely motionless most of the time. Some office workers spend even longer, putting in 9 hour days with only short breaks throughout the day. Many working in stressful environments such as investment banking will even stay at their desks to eat lunch. Some banks have introduced trolley services so busy workers do not need to get up and walk [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com

In 2009 January Jones was criticised for being too thin. However, she defended her figure then, and confirmed that she eats well; “I’m from South Dakota, so meat, potatoes, carbs.” In fact for Mad Men the actresses were encoruaged not to work out as they had to give that 1960′s look, so women were encouraged not to work out. “we didn’t work out and that we eat really well, so we look like healthy women.” January Jones January was told that the show wanted soft women with no muscle definition. She was told to gain some weight to give a more voluptuous look. Beer and Carbs Not exactly your usual diet, but January Jones admits to liking beer and carbs. However, she obviously does not overindulge in either. Although excess beer is certainly not good for your health or your waist line, drinking in moderation is perfectly [...]

We love MotleyHealth.com
