Brazilian Jiu Jitsu versus Kung fu (Royce Gracie vs. Jason Delucia)
This video clip provides an excellent narrative on the Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can overcome other styles. In this fight a competent kung-fu fighter, Jason Delucia is up against Royce Gracie. Gracie quickly controls the fight by getting in close and taking the fight to the floor, where Delucia is not comfortable or experienced.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) was made famous by the Gracie’s, especially Royce, with their success in the MMA arena during the early 1990’s. Soon other fighters learned the importance of cross training in different styles, and being strong with ground work, grappling and joint manipulation.
Jason Delucia is trained in the Five Animals style of Kung Fu and Aikido. He also had a successful career in MMA, and went on to learn the Gracie BJJ system. In UFC 2, DeLucia fought Royce Gracie and lost via armbar submission.
