Kettlebells are becoming a more popular method of home strength training. Their popularity is mostly because no equipment is required other than the kettlebells, and also because they provide a more dynamic workout than standard free weights. Many people like the kettlebell for its simplicity, many people find the style of exercise performed with kettlebells more dynamic than standard free weights, and for many the workouts are more explosive and develop more functional strength than traditional bodybuilding routines. Kettlebells come in all sizes, so can be used as part if a cardio workout, or as part of a more serious strength training workout. The following articles show beginners kettlebells training, aerobic style workouts and more advanced, dynamic routines. The final video demonstrates the dynamic and explosive nature of kettlebell training when taken to the next level. This form of training can provide very good results for martial artists, as timing and grip strength play an important role in the training.
Some history: The kettlebell, or girya (Russian: гиря) is a traditional Russian cast iron weight which resembles a cannonball with a handle. The kettlebell training has become more popular in recent year, largely to the efforts of strength and flexibility coach Pavel Tsatsouline, and also to some extent to the aggressive marketing tactics of many kettlebell companies on the internet. Because kettlebells are relatively cheap to manufacture, many companies produce their own brands of kettlebells which come with kettlebell exercise programs. Some modern kettlebells feature adjustable weights. Kettlebell workouts are intended to increase strength, endurance, agility and balance, challenging both the muscular and cardiovascular system with dynamic, total-body movements.
