I read all the postings I really learned a lot. i have been doing MMA and exercising for a long time. I read every detail about Bruce Lee and his way of living and workouts. if any one wants to be like Bruce Lee they should have the well and delegency in working out. I found out from my humble experience that anyone should exercise daily and always try to change the rather of the exercise routine. also try to do all the exercises for the same muscle but on different days and try to work out all your muscles group everyday but as i said before different work out schedule. also stick to a healthy diet . i know that Bruce used to drink a lot of protein powder but u can substitute it with raw eggs and skimmed milk but don't take supplements because it will not be good on the long run. try to be natural in your diet and work out. always check for food that has the smallest amount of fats.

Bruce Lee was certainly ahead of his time in his thought process: muscle confusion, there is no such thing as spot-reduction and realizing that abs are mostly made in the kitchen. He had one of the best physiques around at the time. The man definitely knew how to train his body properly. What an inspiration...and not to mention one set of absolutely killer abs!

Weight training can help to strengthen the lower back. Developing the core muscles (without over straining them) will help to support the lower back. Of course, it really depends on the health of your lower back at the moment.

This video provides some exercises which are designed to help the core and lower back. The weighted exercises only use a light weight and the focus in on stretching the core under resistance: http://youtu.be/_tG1y0gYRcw

Pullovers hit the lats and it is thought that Bruce did a lot of these. Also the "Yates row" which is similar to a bentover row but you stand more upright, still with the knees a little bent, and with an outward grip (like you would if bicep curling) bring the bar up to your chest, making sure that you are rowing with the lats and not curling with the biceps. Start light and focus on good form and reps.

By the way, when I was asking about how he got such huge lats, I was wanting to know what workouts and exercise would be best building those lats. And what would be good for the lower lats too? Furthermore what would be a good exercise for traps? Because I have been doing "shrugs" for a while and haven't really gained anything. Thanks for helping me out.

I do not know what the pause between reps was, I assume not long, just long enough to keep the tension for a second before repeating. As for speed, there is nothing specific on speed training but the articles on is kickboxing routines show the types of training which he did. To train speed you really just need to practice striking fast. Over and over again. See this page for all our Bruce Lee articles.

Just one thing that isn't clear (though it might just be me not reading this properly!) How long did Bruce leave between each rep? Also do you have a page on how he developed his awesome speed?

Hi Devin, I do not know how often Bruce did it. He varied and developed his routines throughout his life though. He did do a lot of standard weight training, we have some details here: Bruce Lee Weight Training Workout

Thanks for posting the Bruce Lee Isometric Training Workout. I just have one question about it, though:

How often or how many days per week did Lee do this workout? How often would it be good for the average person to do it?

Also - was this his one and only strength training program or was it supplemental to others he was doing at the time?

Im 18. Every morning I wake up at 5.30 am. I usually have corn flakes or toast and muesli. For breakfast then wait 20 minutes and then I do bicep curls 1000 reps without a break, each arm. I do 500 reps on my triceps with a 7 kg hand weight. And after that I have 3 apples and a handful of almonds. I dont use heavy weights at all, I have been using a forearm grip for my whole life I also do a lot of running walking and jogging. All I know is that I did this everyday and it double my strength endurance and speed, and I put on a lot of beef

The stretches that Bruce Lee did are still done in martial arts schools all over the world. Find a high kicking style and you will get good instruction on the stretches. Or get a copy of The Art of Expressing the Human Body.

I recommend that BEFORE you do all theses exercises, read his books on what he thought and how he acted, and try to gain a similar "mindset". As John Little wrote, "In order to get a "body like Bruce" you must put in Bruce Lee like efforts." Bruce Lee often stated,"don't merely imitate me.Use my ideas as your guide.Read the books, then once you've done that, throw them away." Find your OWN form of "Self expression"!

What's up guys. Good work out tips, but Most of u may think Bruce lee wasn't bulky. But one time in his life, he went from 130 to 160 really fast with his constant trial and error of weight training. He was felt very sluggish and his body wasn't as fast and functional so he drop the weight back to 130. One of his friends spoke of this in the art of expressing the human body.
I read his training was somewhat like this 7am-9am stretch/flexibility, run, ab training. 11-12pm weight training and cycling. He's also quotes that he loves running because it's refreshing, he always had a pair of running shoes with him. He love running at the beach and around his bel air home. One of his students noted that he hated running with Bruce because he would run backwards and sideways to better his martial arts stance. Bruce lee is a super human! This is a great summary from the book

i just wanted to add that those 1 minute, 30 second, and the isometric training portions are the those burns that lee was talking about so when you MESH or BLEND it all together, make sure you think about how much further you want to divide your muscle regions on your body
