The Movies and Popcorn Make You Fat!
Eating at the movies has been a part of our culture for over half a century now. A trip to the movies without a bucket of popcorn and giant cup of soda would be incomplete for most people. Many cinemas now make more money from selling food to movie goers than they make from ticket sales. Most movie theaters now sell ice creams, hot dogs, burgers, fries and candy in addition to the obligatory popcorn. Some even have bars.
How does all this food affect your weight? There is a common myth that popcorn is low in calories, this is simply not true. Many of the snacks that are sold in cinemas are high in fat, salt and sugar, which leads to increased weight and poor health. Popcorn is no exception.
A large 13oz bucket of sweet popcorn contains around 1,800 calories, which combined with a giant cup of soda is almost as much as one person needs to eat in a day. As all of these calories are generally consumed in the evening, after eating all the days meals, all of this energy is surplus to requirements and is converting to fat.
If you are a regular movie goer, seeing a new film every weekend, then this hobby can be the reason why you are overweight. If you wish to lose weight, then the best option is to take your own healthy snacks and a bottle of water.
