Anti Varicose Veins Diet

Varicose Vein DietVaricose veins are becoming a bigger problem in Western society, while in societies that consume mostly nutrient rich, unprocessed food, varicose vein are very rare. There is also a genetic link, as it is thought by some that having a parent or grandparent with varicose veins means that you are more likely to develop them, but it is not a certainty.

The main trigger for developing varicose veins seems to be a lack of exercise, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and working conditions. People that remain seated for prolonged periods are more likely to develop varicose veins. So the first advice is not really about eating, it is to get some regular exercise and lose weight.

Diet is also important. To help reduce the chance of developing varicose veins remove as much refined and processed food from your diet as possible and replace them with a diet high in anti-oxidants, fiber and phytochemicals.

Coffee, tea, sugar, alcohol and dairy should all be reduced, and avoided if possible.

Some people swear by nettle tea, drunk in the mornings. Also consuming a wide range of vitamin and mineral supplements (always to supplement a healthy diet, not to replace) is also beneficial.
