Healthy Fruit Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are possibly the healthiest drinks you can have. Made with fresh fruit, they are high in vitamins and nutrients and easily digested. They make great summer drinks and are a good way to introduce new fruits to children too. Most importantly they provide an excellent source of vitamins. However, fructose is the natural sugar in fruit, and too much can lead to weight gain – the expression “too much of a good thing” is certainly true as far as smoothies are concerned.

Pineapple, Melon and Banana Smoothie

This classic fruit smoothie will replenish your vitamin levels and give you a healthy energy boost to boot.

  • 1/2 a melon, chopped up
  • 4 pineapple slices (fresh or tinned rings is fine)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 3 tablespoons of natural yogurt

Blend all the ingredients. Add extra pineapple juice if too thick.

Pineapple is a good source of manganese, vitamin C and vitamin B1. Pineapples contain an enzyme that breaks down protein, so it is not wise to consume too many pineapples if you are on a high protein diet. However the enzyme is destroyed in the canning process, so for bodybuilders and athletes, canned pineapple may actually be healthier for you than fresh!

Banana, Kiwi and Pineapple Smoothie

This one is a little more exotic and much more zesty than the usual smoothies and can be a great pick me up in the mornings. You could leave the banana out completely and it makes a very refreshing drink.

  • 2 large cups of pineapple juice
  • 3 kiwis
  • 2 bananas

Simply smooth it all up in your blender and your are done.

Triple Strawberry Smoothie

If you like strawberries, you will love this triple strawberry smoothie. Possibly the strawberriest taste experience you will ever have! Just add the ingredients to your blender and you have instant strawberry pleasure in a jar.

  • 12 large ripe strawberries
  • pot of strawberry yogurt
  • 1 scoop of strawberry ice cream

Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids which help keep our immune systems ticking over nicely. This is a simple strawberry smoothie recipe for strawberry fans. Great for Summer. If you are feeling naughty, add a dollop of freshly whipped cream.
