Zooey Deschanel singing in She and HimZooey Deschanel is a singer-songwriter and actress from Los Angeles. She was born in 1980 and is currently 31 years old. She has had a very varied career which started with her first acting role in Veronica’s Closet in 1998 when she was 19 years old.

She has also sung on the soundtracks of a few of the films she has appeared in as well as being the singer and musician in the American indie pop group, She & Him. She attributes her success to her mother who once told her to to use her imagination.

Diet and Healthy Eating

Zooey eats really healthily, especially when she is touring. Zooey does not allow being on the road or living a disruptive lifestyle to prevent her from eating a healthy and balanced diet.

She stocks up on fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts and lean meats. She says that it is very easy to eat healthy while on the road as there are so many stores now selling fresh produce and health food. She makes a point to not go out after performances and this really helps to keep the diet healthy.

Although Zooey was vegan for a while when she was younger, like her sister Emily Deschanel, but as she suffers some food allergies and intolerance (particularly wheat) she found that it was impossible to get enough energy while maintain a vegan diet.

Like Emily VanCamp she loves to bake, especially when friends come to visit, and her cupcakes and cookies are very popular amongst her friends. But baked foods do not make up the bulk of her diet. She does admit to enjoying gluten-free chocolate-chip cookies from a local bakers though.

Zooey never snacks in between meals as she feels that snacking would lead to far too many calories being consumed. This is key to losing weight and maintaining weight loss.

She enjoys eating healthy pasta meals such as quinoa spaghetti served with pesto and zucchini. She also loves to prepare healthy and nutritious soups. Soup is a great way to help control hunger to reduce eating – see the 10 Scientific Ways To Lose Weight for more on this.

Exercise and Fitness Workouts

For fitness she performs a variety of exercises. Zooey enjoys hiking, running and cycling, all of which are excellent for burning calories and reducing fat. She exercises for 60 minutes every day but does give herself one day off each week. Daily exercise really is at the root of a healthy body.

She enjoys exercising outdoors and says that when in LA she runs all the time.

“A lot of people work out to be skinny. That’s so boring, and it seems like a depressing goal for a modern woman. I work out to be healthy and because I like it.” Zooey Deschanel in an interview with Self Magazine.

This is a great attitude to take. Fitness should form a part of your life, your interests and your lifestyle. Many people who take up sports and active hobbies such as football, hiking, martial arts and dance get fit and stay fit not because they are motivated to be slimmer and healthier but because they are motivated to become better at their chose sport.

She likes to exercise with friends, especially when she is exercising at home. The great thing about exercising with friends is that you feel more compelled to train harder, and you can also motivate each other.

She told Self magazine that she loves to Hula hoop as it is low impact exercise that tones the stomach and burns 7 calories per minute, or 420 Calories an hour, if you can maintain it! It seems that Zooey can maintain it as she has said that she can Hula for hours at a time if she wants. No wonder she does not need to lose weight!

Zooey is a bit of a blogger and has fully embraced the Internet and social media. She has a Tumblr blog where she posts random photos mostly, a Twitter page, @ZooeyDeschanel and she is founder and contributor to a website about women in comedy, hellogiggles.com.
