George Clooney Enjoys Jazzercise and 21-year-old Footballers

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney is a bit of an enigma really. The women love him, but yet he is rarely seen with women on his arm, and is still unmarried at 48 years old. He shot to fame as Doctor Doug in ER before hotting the big screen. So what do we know about him, his fitness regimes and diet? You certainly cannot be a wealthy 48 year old American and remain fit and toned if you are not keeping an eye on your diet and staying active.

George spoke to the Daily Mail in 2007, and revealed some of his fitness secrets:

“Well, we do a lot of aerobics, a lot of dance, there is a lot of jazz-ercise, the ab-master, there’s the butt-blaster or whatever it’s called. And also there is a lot of yoga. And I have also just finished doing a movie where I did (American) football with a bunch of 21-year-olds which I highly recommend. That’s going to keep anyone in shape.” George Clooney, 2007.

Bikram Yoga

The yoga that George Clooney is referring to is Bikram yoga, which like Ashtanga is another very energetic form of yoga. What makes Bikram different though is that it is designed to be performed in a hot environment, ideally at 40 degress Celcius or more. It is also known as a “hot yoga”.

One of his yoga teachers was Bikram Choudhury who founded the Bikram yoga movement. He explained that George was actually a very disciplined student, and often does a 90 minute yoga class whenever he is working near a Bikram yoga school, even when working overseas. Bikram Choudhury has 314 certified schools Worldwide, so George is never far from somewhere to practice.

How Does Bikram Yoga Work?

The idea is really that performing yoga in a hot environment speeds up your metabolism which means that you burn fat quicker. Your whole body should also feel more energised as a result of the increase metabolic rate.

However, Bikram yoga does have its critics. The effect of the heat can result in people over-stretching and injuring themselves more often that they would in a normal environment. It is common for practitioners to push themselves, and each other, hard to extend further each time.

George Clooney’s Diet

As for his diet, well, we can only speculate. It is probably a healthy diet, full of nutritious fruits and vegetables. When he put on weight for the film Syria he ate a lot of pasta. So, to lose weight, he probably avoids high carb meals. But George Clooney is a secretive guy when it comes to his eating and exercising habits. Plus he is a bit of a joker too, so we can never be sure whether he is telling the truth or not. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  1. Was watching The American starring George, in one of the scenes he is exercising in his hotel room when he assumes a posture sat on the floor with his legs straight out in front of him. This guy is the same age as me and I just thought wow he has to be practicing yoga. Anyway I googled and came up with this post which confirmed my thinking. I have only just started yoga after trying many other forms of exercise to stay fit and I have to say I am really enjoying it, in fact I am driving my wife nuts showing her my poses, some of which I have to say I would never have though I could have managed only a couple of months ago. Bikram looks a litle impractical for me though – I dont live in a hot climate and I cant afford to turn my heating up to 40 degrees Celcius!

Yeah, Bikram does seem a bit gimmicky really. Check out our yoga section, we have many routines and postures.
