Scarlett Johansson’s Diet and Workouts

Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood’s sexiest, hottest celebs. Her most recent role is as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in The Avengers and she will be appearing in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014.

Johansson does not discuss her personal life with the press so we know only a little about her. However, we do know that Johansson is a cheese fanatic, as she once said; “my greatest vice is cheese. Nothing else reigns over my life.

She is not afraid to break the Hollywood stereotype either, as she has repeatedly criticized the media and Hollywood for promoting an image that causes unhealthy diets and eating disorders among women.

“that being ultra-thin is not sexy at all. Women shouldn’t be forced to conform to unrealistic and unhealthy body images that the media promote.”

When asked about how she stays in such great shape, she says that she relies on eating well and walking a lot. She admits that she still has youth on her side. She sometimes does yoga, but puts her slim figure down mostly to living in the city, as “you do a lot of exercise and eat smartly.”

In 2012 she played Natasha Romanoff (a.k.a. Black Widow) in Avengers Assemble. Apparently she has been offered around $20 million to film the sequel. Her career is rocketing and she is making sure that she stays in good shape to play a super-heroine.

Actresses Are Too Thin

On Weight Issues in Hollywood, she told Australian Health & Fitness that “… there are actresses who I look at and say ‘They’re too thin for my taste’. I think that’s something that’s bought and sold by the media. It’s like someone said to me yesterday: ‘It must be so difficult for you. Aren’t you upset at the media coverage of celebrities and their private lives?

High Vegetable Diet and Stunt Workouts

In April 2012 Scarlett said that she had to adopt a high vegetable diet, with mostly low GI vegetables, to get into her Black Widow catsuit for the filming of the Avengers. She revealed her diet secrets during a press conference in London.

“You’re training and doing all that stunt work so you eat a lot of green things.” Scarlett Johansson, London, April 2012.

As well as eating a healthy, vegetable based diet, Scarlett also spent a lot of time working out in the “stunt gym”, perfecting the tumbles and moves that are required to play Black Widow. She explained that she had to perform many “huge, intense choreographed sequences“.

Takeaways Are OK In Moderation

Also, she does admit to eating a bit junk food, and the odd over indulgence!

“I like Burger King cheeseburger meals, because I like the toy and I love the charbroiled taste. So good. My dad is Danish. That makes me half Danish I suppose but I was born and raised in New York so I don’t consider myself to be European. I go to Denmark, I was there recently and we just had our first niece so I was in Copenhagen. I am really happy when I am there and I get really fat too, I can’t stop eating all the yummy food.”

She famously sums up her attitude with the following message:

“I am normal. I have ‘fat days,’ and I’m never going to be 5″11′ and 120 pounds. I’m not really the type of girl who goes jogging at 6 a.m., but I eat well and I walk a lot.”

  1. It’s refreshing to hear a celebrity female who is also rated as one of the most beautiful in the world talk openly her weight, food and how she doesn’t aspire to be 120 pounds.

Obviously she likes to look good and stay in shape but she realizes that ultra skinny look is not that attractive or healthy.

  2. that’s just an excuse for not having to be too thin

I disagree Sarah. For a start, surely no one wants to be “too thin”? Most importantly, she looks good. Size zero is just not attractive. Skin and bones are favoured by fashion designers as it makes their craft easier, but few men like a size zero woman. Women should be athletic and curvy.

  4. I think she is GORGEOUS. My favorite celebrity by far and I think she’s a great role model for women of all ages. She’s healthy and has a good head on her shoulders.

  5. I think she’s gorgeous too. She makes me feel good about myself, to know that she has ‘fat days’ too. Most importantly, she sounds healthy! She eats right and walks lots, she sounds like a normal person, not a celebrity. I love her! I wish more celebrities were like her, happy with their weight and not trying to be ‘skinny’.

  6. I feel the same way. She’s my new role model (in terms of body image); I’m never going to look like Alessandra Ambrosio or Adriana Lima; I’d rather have a body like Scarlett Johansson anyways.

I am a female after all; we’re supposed to have curves and all that… rather than be flat.

  7. Pssssh!! Please, of course she’ll never be 5’11” and 120 pounds! She’s like 5’3″ or 5’4″ and said to wear a size 3/4 — so that means she probably weighs around 115 to 120 pounds!
I’m not a Scarlett hater or anything, I think she’s drop dead gorgeous! I just think that people don’t realize that although she isn’t tall and skinny doesn’t NOT make her thin. She definately is!

  8. I think Scarlett is gourgouss. She has that curvy, feminine, hourglass, M.Monroe body that looks so good in clothes, especially dresses. Like she is shaped by a godess:) She seems real, a real healthy woman. Who doesn’t wan to look like a stick, like all those super skinny modells. Humans are not Barbie dolls or like those Japanese cartoons. And the great thing is that Scarlett makes other women everywhere (including me who has a curvy hourglass shape) feel great. When listening to Scarlett it makes me feel so happy about my own body. It really makes me love it! I don’t have to be like media tells me to be, I can be just me! I also think it’s good Scarlett can eat fast food and sometimes get a little fatter, love her! She is half from Denmark, I’m from Norway, you see, we get each other!!! haha JK

  9. I too like her body shape. She looks healthy and normal. MM is rather flabby and has lumps of fat here and there. Sophia Loren looks like a strict disciplinarian and more than 99% of us will never achieve her body ever! If you wanna have a role model for shaping up SJ is gud becoz she probably sounds and looks more reasonable. And she looks rather feminine too. But then again she should be having other tips than just walking. If she’s in showbiz she really cant get fat whenever she wants, as she makes a living out of it and needs to maintain a good image to combat the rising competition. It’s not easy to maintain an hourglass figure

Often when celebrities say that they do not workout it is because they do not want the media to focus their attention on their fitness and diet habits. For many this is an intrusion and not really relevant to the message that they are keen to give, that is about their work, whether it be acting or singing. She obviously is careful with what she eats. Remember that staying slim is 90% about diet and 10% about exercise. A healthy diet goes a long way. Most people do not have a healthy diet which is why most people are overweight.
