Carmelita Jeter Blasts Ahead of the Women 100m Field

Carmelita Jeter, a 29 year old American sprinter, ran 100m in 10.67sec in Greece in the World Athletics final in Thessalonki on 13th Sept. 2009. Yesterday, in China, she beat her personal best again and ran 10.64sec.

This makes her the 3rd fastest woman ever, just behind Marion Jones and Florence Griffith-Joyner.

Carmelita Jeter Training and Athletics Career

Jeter’s favorite sport at school was basketball, and was the sport that her family followed, her brother Eugene joined the Sacramento Kings.

Her basketball coach spotted her talent at sprinting, so suggested that she tried out track. She ran 100m in 11.7 seconds, and she never turned back since then.

A recurring hamstring problem kept her out of competition for much of 2003–05. It wasn’t until 2007 that she made her first impact in senior track and field athletics, after having undergone treatment with deep tissue massage.
