Swimmer Phelps Caught Smoking Cannabis
Today a BBC News report revealed that swimming legend Michael Phelps has admitted to “regrettable behaviour”, after a photo of him apparently smoking cannabis was published in the media. Michael Phelps, who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, was pictured by the News of the World smoking from a glass pipe, or bong. The picture was taken at the University of South Carolina last November.
Phelps has already apologised to fans, and promised that the incident would not be repeated. Phelp’s Statement:
“I engaged in behaviour which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgement. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.” Michael Phelps, 2009.
Michael Phelps broke seven world records in Beijing, eight American records and eight Olympic records to become the most decorated male Olympian of all time with a total of 16 medals, including 14 golds. In January he was named the United States Olympic Committee’s sportsman of the year for 2008.

If Michael Phelps is into smoking pipes then good for him. Just because he enjoys smoking a glass pipe does not mean he should have to lie about it and talk about the “big mistake” he made. The government makes a mistake every time it enforces marijuana prohibition at the expense of America and good since. America should grow up and quit attacking its own citizens for how they decide to spend their recreational time.
