How to Help Teenagers Find Reliable Weight Loss Information
|
A recent study has revealed that teenagers are spending on average one hour each week reading online weight loss advice. As we are all too well aware, there are a lot of websites out there which are essentially an extravagant advert for the latest weight loss fad. Judging by the amount of junk mail received in the MotleyHealth offices trying to sell us pills and potions, allegedly endorsed by celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, it is truly worrying to think that impressionable youngsters are reading and believing the claims that many sites are making regarding the effectiveness of the latest weight loss product.
So, what can we do to protect youngsters from the snake oil merchants? Firstly, we must continue to examine the products on offer and debunk their claims whehever possible. And then we need to find a way to encourage teenagers to research weight loss products more thoroughly before making a decision on a course of action. Most importantly we need to ensure that our message is clear – weight loss is attainable by healthy diet and regular exercise in a majority of cases, and these methods ensure long term health and weight control.

Really good point!
My focus is adults (who I find to be mostly misinformed as well!) Though teens would likely be more susceptible to believing and following the incredibly bad advice their parents do! Just have a look at Yahoo Answers which is popular with the younger set and you’ll see some if not harmful, incredibly inaccurate advice being given and accepted!
