Gene Maps for all New Borns to Predict Medical Conditions

It is thought that within 10 years the science will be available to provide gene maps at birth, which will provide accurate predictions on risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

The company working on the genome technlogy is Illumina. They believe that by 2019 it will have the technology to map out an infants genes, and use this to deteermine who is at risk from the most fatal illnesses. This will allow preventitive measures to be taken sooner, and reduce eventual risk. Of course, if everyone improved their lifestyle now, then gene mapping will play a lesser role in health.
