Murray Beats Nadal, but Federer is Still Too Strong For Him
After Andy Murray’s fantastic victory over Rafeal Nadal, it seemed that he was finally ready to win a tennis title. However the Swiss Roger Federer put an end to Andy Murray’s dreams in a 6-2 7-5 6-2 victory in one hour 51 minutes at the US Open.
This victory means that Federer now holds 13 Grand Slam titles, just one behind record holder Pete Sampras. He is also the first man ever to win five consecutive titles at two Grand Slams – the US Open and Wimbledon.

Andy Murray was competing in his first ever US Open final, after beating world number one Rafeal Nadal. Murray recovered from a break down in the fourth set of the semi-final to beat the Spaniard 6-2 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-4. However, in tonight’s final, Roger Federer came out fighting, and seemed to wreck Andy Murray’s confidence in the opening games.
Andy Murray was positive about his performance though, and hopes to build on his strengths.
“I had a great tournament but I came up against, in my opinion, the best player ever to play game the today. I got the better of him the last two times and he definitely set the record straight today. I’ve learnt I’ve got a lot of improving to do if I want to win one of these things.” Andy Murray, 2008.
Andy Murray is certainly looking stronger each tournament, and Britain could finally have a new Wimbledon champion in 2009.
