Bryan Clay (US) Leading Mens Decathlon

Bryan Clay (US) Leading Mens DecathlonBryan Clay is leading after the first two events in the mens decathlon. Clay jumped 7.78 metres in the long jump and completed the 100m in 10.44 seconds to put him ahead early on. The decathlon is possibly one of the most demanding events in the Olympic Track and Field competition. Traditionally, the title of “World’s Greatest Athlete” has been given to the man who wins the decathlon.

The modern event is a set combination of athletic disciplines, testing an individual’s speed, strength, skill, endurance, and perseverance; it includes five events on each of two successive days. The emphasis of the first day is on speed, explosive power, and jumping ability; the second emphasizes technique and endurance.

The Decathlon events:

  1. 100 metres
  2. long jump
  3. shot put
  4. high jump
  5. 400 metres
  6. 110 metre hurdles
  7. discus
  8. pole vault
  9. javelin
  10. 1500 metres

Britains hopeful, Daniel Awde, is trailing behind in 17th place currently. But there are still 8 events to play, so anything is possible.
