Aids Crisis Perpetuated by Quacks and Traditional Healers

The South African Minister for Health, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, is trying to abolish the independent drug approval body, which is likely to lead to a dependence on traditional healers and other forms of alternative medicine.

Without the independent body to approve, or disapprove medicines, it is thought that the drugs that have been proven to be effective against HIV will be rejected in favour of medicines that are sold by traditional healers, and have no scientific or medical basis for treating HIV. Such examples include a reliance on garlic and vitamins to treat the auto-immune disease.
