Alternative Medicine for Stress and Relaxation
Stress and anxiety are too mental health conditions that can be treated to some extent my practitioners of alternative medicine. Alternative practitioners are generally good at dealing with conditions such as tiredness, anxiety, and other stress related disorders. However, the skills and knowledge of alternative practitioners can vary greatly, so it is very important to chose one that can hep you.
How to chose an Alternative Practitioner
It is important to remember that not all alternative practitioners are professionally trained or qualified in medicine. Possibly the best method of choosing an alternative medicine practitioner is through word of mouth. If you know people, or can speak with people that have good experiences with a particular doctor, then this could well be the best way to find someone that can help you. Some GP’s can recommend alternative practitioners, and there are some Internet forums and alternative health websites that may advertise doctors.
As there are currently few regulations for alternative health, practitioners can vary from being reliable, well trained, honest, ethical and honourable, whereas others may be poorly trained, charlatans who are simply after your money. So it is really a good idea to seek a testimony from someone who has seen such a doctor first if possible. However, if this is not possible, then use your own common sense and judgement to determine if a doctor is doing a good job, and if they are not, then look elsewhere.
Acupuncture as an alternative therapy for stress relief
One of the oldest and best established forms of alternative medicine is acupuncture. Done properly it can be effective for many disorders. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, human life is controlled by chi which is a form of energy that flows along the meridians throughout the body. Acupuncture is used to tap into the energy pathways, to clear blockages and manipulate the energy to improve health. It is common for a pulse diagnosis to be taken before treatment.
Some acupuncturists use moxibustion, which involves drying and shredding wormwood leaves and burning them directly over and acupuncture point.
In the 1980’s the World Health Organisation concluded in their research that acupuncture had to be taken more seriously by Western medicine as so many benefits from treatment had been recorded. The WHO listed a number of diseases that could be helped by a well trained practitioner, which include:
- Acute sinusitis and tonsillitis
- Asthma and acute bronchitis
- Toothache
- Gastritis and ulcers
- Headaches and Migraines
- Frozen shoulder and tennis elbow
- Back Pain
- Arthritis
Choosing a good practitioner is difficult as too many badly trained practitioners are available. Many poorly trained practitioners include GPs / family doctors with limited training.
Poorly administered treatment can cause far worse damage that good treatment can cure. So chose your doctor carefully.
